After five seasons, fans of “Stranger Things” couldn’t wait to see the last show. Until they saw it. And then some wanted to throw the remote at the TV screen.
“It wasn’t that good, there were a lot of plot holes left unanswered and I expected more deaths,” says Mason Marrero, a sophomore. He thinks they could’ve made the fight scene with the villain Vecna longer and had more deaths.
“Stranger Things,” a Netflix series that debuted in 2016, aired its final episode on New Year’s Eve, leaving fans with mixed feelings and concerns.
The series focuses on a group of outcast kids in Hawkins, Ind., in the 1980s. Written by the Duffer Brothers, the show started with the disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and the discovery of a girl named Eleven, later referred to as Jane (Mille Bobby Brown), who escaped from the Hawkins lab. From battling demogorgons in the Upside Down to strange government conspiracies, the tension lived up to its title.
But not everyone likes the way the show ended. Some people hated the ending because of how rushed it felt, how easily the antagonists were killed and the sudden bad acting. Others understand the pace of the season because it all happens within three days.
Jazlene Rosario, a freshman, didn’t like the way the show ended. She had high expectations and thought the characters Vecna, Robin and Kali were going to die. Even so, she found the ending touching. “I cried a lot,” she said.
Ariana Gonzalez, a sophomore, found the ending too predictable. She thought that the character Mike was going have an unexpected death. She had high hopes for the show but it did not turn out as good as she hoped.
Zuleyma Perez, a freshman, thought it was a good final episode but some things weren’t answered. “It seemed very rushed.”
Isaiah Ayala, a freshman, called the ending terrible. “It was rushed,” he said. “But I liked it overall just not the ending.”
“I was expecting someone else to die, not Eleven,” he said. He wanted Steve to live, but he thinks he should’ve died to make the finale sadder.
“Honestly, I didn’t expect for Eleven to leave like that, but I think she’s still alive, and the ending was kinda rushed and sad,” said Malak El Amri, a sophomore. She says that the ending could’ve been better if Eleven didn’t die and got a happy ending with Mike. She doesn’t think the other characters should die, except for Kali, because she was manipulative and influenced El to stay in the upside down.
Jayden Villianvera, a freshman, says he didn’t like the ending, because Vecna got defeated too easily when it should’ve taken longer. “I didn’t think Eleven was gonna die, I thought Steve was gonna die when he was gonna fall off the tower.” He said, “They should’ve killed off most of the cast, but nothing really happened.”
