Lehman spring sports are back in action. The Lehman coaches are eager to have winning seasons and inspire the players to grow and keep their academics as a priority.
Varsity baseball started their season with a strong five to three win against South Bronx after being moved up from double A to triple A. Coach Alex Tirado is “looking forward to seeing how we compete in the top division and how successful we could be.”
His main goal is to make the playoffs. “I want all of the kids on the team to be successful,’’ he said. “It would be impressive to make it [to the playoffs] first year back in the top division.”
He looks for a class act in a player. “Somebody that’s going to work hard; a respectful young man who isn’t going to mess around and someone who also works hard in class and in baseball.”
Junior Varsity baseball coach, Daniel Drashinsky, hopes to improve his players to get them ready for varsity. “That’s the goal for JV. There’s no playoffs. I would rather see them improve than win. But winning is good too and having fun,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting on the field with the team and really trying to make them better athletes and baseball players. I have new players and I’m looking forward to teaching them and I have older players who I’m hoping to sharpen their skills,” Coach Drashinsky added.
The boys lacrosse season was forfeited due to a lack of players, but Coach Darrel Kidd was hopeful to bring a larger audience to the sport. “I’m looking forward to teaching newer players how to play and giving opportunities to student athletes who haven’t had them before and further lacrosse to the next level,” Coach Kidd said.
On the other hand, the girls lacrosse team is still going and Coach Janelle Marxhausen is hoping for a win. “We want to win. We’ve had a couple of rough seasons in the past, rebuilding after covid has been hard. This year we do have a lot of returning players so I’m hoping we could use those skills that we built last season and work on them even more,” she said.
Coach Marxhausen looks forward to teaching her players and watching as they improve over the course of the season. The coaches are hopeful for the upcoming season and want to win and improve the ability of their players.
