There are many rivalries in the world of football; one of the most heated is Real Madrid vs. Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga. The two clubs play each other in what is called an “El Classico” with the average viewership for these matches being 85 to 100 million people. The debate continues as journalists Franklin Sosa and Diosbeni Rojas defend their favorite clubs.
Franklin: There is no real comparison for these two clubs. Real Madrid is clearly the greatest team in Spain: We are more consistent than Barca; despite their recent success, we have more trophies, and our players often perform better than the players at Barca.
Diosbeni: We have won 10 ballon d’ors in the last 20 years through the players, but we weren’t supported by the King of Spain, who influenced Madrid’s trophies and oppressed the people of Catalonia which Barcelona is in.
Franklin: The support from Spain’s dictator is not something I can deny but if we’re looking at the teams over the past 20 years, Real Madrid has dominated when it comes to the major European trophies, as a team we have been able to perform better than Barcelona in competitions which fans consider to be the most important. Furthermore, Real Madrid has better financial management than Barcelona, which is an important aspect of a football club.
Diosbeni: We don’t need money when we have one of the best academies in the world, which produces generational talent. Also to refute the point you made regarding the trophies, Barcelona has won 41 trophies in the 21st century while Real Madrid has won 40 trophies in the 21st century.
Franklin: Barcelona’s academy is not the only one that produces talented players, Madrid’s academy has also produced generational players, and as I said, Real Madrid has overall won more major titles whereas Barcelona has the edge in domestic titles.
Diosbeni: That may be true but our academy has produced better players in the current century.
Franklin: I won’t deny that Barca’s academy players are better; however, when it comes to the professional stage, our players have produced better overall results in the current century. When it comes to going up against the best of the best, we are the better team.
Diosbeni: We beat you four to three in a cup final by the way. Also, last season we beat you in two finals and bested you. 104(Barca.) to a 106(Madrid.) head-to-head record all time.
Franklin: You just admitted that when it comes to the two clubs playing against each other Real Madrid has overall performed better, Madrid is the team with the most history, and we are the team that has put Spain on the map.
Diosbeni: We faced financial problems and are currently in a rebuilding stage in which we have started performing better and hired better coaching. Barcelona shares 2 la liga titles in the 2020’s with Real Madrid.
Franklin: Financial problems are the fault of Barca themselves; no one else can be blamed for the choices your club made. As for your rebuilding point, that’s the excuse Barca fans have been using for six years.
Diosbeni: Rebuilding takes time and the right players we have now and new management has allowed Barcelona to perform better in recent seasons.
Franklin: Both clubs are going head-to-head once more on May 10; we’ll see how things play out then.
Diosbeni: I guess we will be the best team to win.
