BuildOn, a community service organization, has announced its first-ever student of the month winners for October and November, Mustapha Drammeh and David Arevalo. The community organization selected Mustapha, a senior, as the initial recipient because of his dedication to the program.
Mustapha has shown great ambition with buildOn, only missing one trip this year and having a total of 27 community service hours. He says he uses buildOn as a way to do something positive for the community while keeping a good image for himself, showing off his potential.
“I just love the unity and kindness that’s consistent throughout the community,” Mustapha said.
He has a love for senior citizens, hoping to see an outreach in the future where students can help them. He encourages others to join buildOn due to it being something useful to do in your free time as well as the great impression you can make for colleges.
“Mustapha is very kind and so welcoming to everyone in buildOn, even the newcomers,” Melanie Valdez, the buildOn engagement specialist, said. “He’s very eager to get the job done.”’
David Arevalo, a junior, won the award for November with a total of 102 community service hours since his sophomore year.
“A lesson I learned was that things aren’t all about you, it’s about the community,” David said.
“He was committed even before I was the specialist’’ says Ms. Valdez. “Just like Mustapha, he’s also very kind and goal-oriented when it comes to service.”
