The world’s HIGHEST GROSSING movie!  The most SUCCESSFUL release in the history of the Warner Bros. The spotlight on Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and Greta Gerwig.  The movie “Barbie!”

This summer’s fun release of “Barbie”’  left not only the audiences amazed but also impacted the thinking of those who saw it.  The movie focuses on patriarchy, a social or political structure where women are mostly marginalized and men control the majority of the power

Assistant principal Tene Kelly said the movie based on Mattel’s Barbie doll collection had an impact on her views.   “It has opened my eyes to how far we have come in society to be able to portray patriarchy on such a large platform,” Ms. Kelly said.

“I liked it more than I thought I would like it but I was shocked to see patriarchy begin to be joked about in the biggest-grossing movie ever,” Ms. Kelly said.  “For people who understand what patriarchy is, I think it can be a positive movie. If people are too young to understand patriarchy, they might miss the point of the movie and may enforce negative stereotype.”

English teacher Daniel Butler said the movie had a positive impact on society.  “Yes, I think it has a positive impact on society because I think it shows gender roles in a funny and non-confrontational way,” Mr. Butler said. “The movie impacted me because it reinforced my own belief that women are capable of doing anything that men are and I think it’s good that kids of a younger age get to see get to see…the possibility for females having a lead role in the world.”

English teacher Evelyn Mendez said that “as a woman and mother it spread a strong message about women empowerment and I am raising a daughter and son and this gets to show the struggles and beauties of women empowerment.”

She added that the movie had a “positive impact because it’s making  lighthearted fun about men in today’s society because it’s not far from the truth. The message is to value what women in today’s society have to bring. And that women have great ideas and potential to be great leaders and sometimes those abilities are overlooked because they’re women.”
