Students at Bronx River celebrated their last Student Council Spirit Day on June 5. On this Spirit Day, students got to combine their school uniforms with jeans, hats, scarves or whatever they wanted. Some opted to wear the uniform shirt backwards or drape it over their head.
June 5 also marked the last day students have to wear school uniforms this school year, giving students a chance to celebrate their style during the few weeks of school.
Emalee Charles, the student council president, explained the concept. “It’s a chance to do something they are constantly unable to do; staff won’t care,” she said.
“I’m glad that all students came in with no uniforms and it showed school spirit and next week no uniform for all students,” said Diosbeni Rojas, the student council vice president.
Student council adviser Concepcion Pena shared that Spirit Day matters because it helps bring communities together, such as “working together and engaging in the same activity and a new way to express differences in students.”
Ashley Rodriguez, a student council adviser, liked that so many students participated. A way to improve is to “keep advertising” as well as getting “more students input,” she said.
