Food, stickers and flyers are becoming part of the “campaign” for prom king and queen candidates. Voting and results will take place on June 10, the day of prom, but candidates are already getting ahead of the race with their persuasive tactics.
Adriana Espada, Kiara Galarza, Londyn Ortiz, Franyeska Rosario and Natalia Suarez are running for prom queen.
Darisson Amarante, Justin Arias, Iker Hernandez, Adam Lococo, Josue Maquino, Jeury Mota and Austin Zhu are running for prom king.
Kiara, one of the voices behind the morning announcements, believes that she’s a good candidate because she contributes to the school community through student council and playing sports.
“I just want to show everyone that you can still be a part of the school community and run in a positive manner. You don’t have to be nasty about running; I gave out treats to everyone, even people who are running against me or not going to prom,” Kiara said. “I pop into everyone’s classroom and check up on everyone to see how they’re doing. I think I’m a positive influence on the school and a lot of people wanted me to run for that reason.’’
“It’s also to continue my mom’s legacy, she was prom queen and I think it’s nice to look forward to,” she added. “I’ve been telling people that I’ll bring treats, so they should try to come to school so I can keep the incentive up at the end of the year because senioritis is especially kicking.’’
Iker is counting on his memorable character for a shot at winning.
“I’m a good candidate because I talk to everyone and I always say good morning to everyone. I think I’m a nice person and I think teachers like me too,” he said. “I still have to put up flyers and bring treats. I came in my sophomore year while others started earlier than me, but I still feel like I became part of the community,”
