As Memorial Day approaches and the school year wraps up in a few weeks, students and staff are getting ready for the warm weather while also starting to make plans for summer. Students wait almost 10 months to have a long summer vacation. Although there are a few weeks left of the school year, students and staff are working on their plans for the summer. Some want to make progress on the academics and some want to enjoy the break.
- Pablo Terrero, a sophomore, already made his plans for summer break. He will be working as a camp counselor at Camp Yoni located in Manhattan. He also plans to enjoy the remainder of his break getting out of the Bronx. “Traveling to Florida will be relaxing,” he said.
- Layla Batista, a sophomore, is working towards college after high school and has applied for college courses. “College class has major benefits such as money and high school credits,” she said. Her plan is to use her break as a way to get ahead of academics.
- Jazlene Rosario, a freshman, is also taking college classes. She will be traveling to the Dominican Republic for the rest of the break with her family and friends.
- Mia Lappe, a junior, is focusing on working this summer. She is currently looking to find a job. She also intends to “spend more quality time with my family.”
- Sadia Ahammad, a junior, is very busy this summer with many plans ahead. She had an internship in Manhattan and she is also “working on college applications and personal statements.”
- Marisol Ortega, a sophomore, will be trying to get a job and earn more money. She will be spending more time with family and improving herself. “I also want to spend time with my boyfriend’s family. I would also like to work on myself, such as trying new things. For summer I wanna work on my nail tech stuff and practice often,” she said.
- Tene Kelly, the assistant principal, is going to Paris with her god daughter who is graduating. Outside of Paris, she is going to the beach and trying to be outside more for the summer break.
- Ryleigh Curry, a sophomore, will be working as a lifeguard for the beach club with her childhood friend. She is trying to use her money towards personal plans. “I plan to use the money I receive towards traveling throughout summer, such as cities that aren’t too far. I’m also planning to go to a lot of places and do stuff with my friends,” she said. She also wants to go to the beach more. “I also plan to go to Robert Moses beach, near Long Island,” she said. While she will be spending a lot of time with friends, she will be enjoying time with her family at Jersey Shore and Orchard beach.
- Natalie Gil, a sophomore, wants to spend the summer outdoors with friends and visit new places. “I’ll be outside hanging out with my friends, exploring,” she said.
- Dariues Coqiuere, a freshman, will be joining the summer youth employment program over the break to gain money and work experience.
- Nick Fernandez, a sophomore, will be attending summer school to improve his grades and make up credits. He will also spend his break relaxing inside in the air conditioning.
- Kayla Corella, a sophomore will be traveling across to Florida and she’ll return before break to catch up with some friends.
- Dylan Clentar, a junior, will be trying to find a summer job to be active. He will also be outside hanging out with friends at the park playing basketball.
- Ariana Gonzalez, a sophomore, will be making her way to an amusement park in Florida. “ I’ll also be spending time with my family, and we will be camping,” she said. After summer break she returns back to school mode.
- Destiny Soriano, a sophomore said, “I’ll be working doing a student youth employment program.” She will also be hanging out with friends and her boyfriend while enjoying food at home.
- Monique Davis, a school aide, will be helping around in the school. Once she is done, she will be at home, relaxing. She will be very cozy in her home just the way she likes it, “many people don’t like to be home but I enjoy it.”
- Daniel Herguth, the English 9 teacher, says his summer will be at school helping staff and students during the summer with assignments they need to catch up on.
