
To welcome the spring semester and dismiss the students for spring break, the annual spring break town hall took place on April 1. The celebration included a pickleball tournament alongside a cultural fashion show to honor multicultural day. There was also a BAPS Dance Krew performance choreographed by Takeiyah Brown. The school day began with students’ normal first period class with 2nd and 3rd period being the school’s traditional Town Hall, which featured performances, awards and sport tournaments.
During Town Hall, teachers awarded LOGIC awards, to celebrate student’s efforts and traits such as Love of Learning, Mr. O’s Optimism, Grit, Intellectual Curiosity and Caring, to the students in order from 9th grade all the way up to 12th grade. The Love of Learning award honored Joseph Bruno, Paula Benito, Eli Rodriguez and Ann-Kiara Bourdeau. Mr. O’s Optimism award went to Hector Isias Perez, Savannah Rosado, Jaida Hamilton and Keven Luciano acknowledging these students’ resilience and positive attitude to improve their future.
Zuleyma Perez, Ann Marie Jones, Jhontae Velez and Tauqir Shuel earned the Grit reward. For Intellectual Curiosity, Jazlene Rosario, Ryleigh Curry, Evan Berrios and Md Ferdous picked up awards. Tochukwu Enyinna, Miracle Davis, Justin Scoot and Kelsey Yeboah received the caring award in honor of their kindness.
After the LOGIC awards, the culture performances started. First up was the cultural fashion show where students, teachers, and staff volunteered to dress up and represent their cultural backgrounds. Cultures represented included the Dominican Republic, Palestine, Haiti, Nigeria, Guyana, Mexico and Bangladesh. Afterwards, the BAPS Dance Krew performed an original dance mixed with different genres of music. After the performances, Town Hall continued with an attendance reward presentation to celebrate students’ commitment to school. Afterward students were dismissed for lunch in the cafeteria. Later in the afternoon, students went downstairs to the gym to watch the Pickleball tournament. At the end of the match, students were dismissed for the start of the spring break.
