When the incoming class of 2030 stepped into the halls of Bronx River High School, they weren’t just touring the building. They were deciding if this was the place that could help shape their futures.
Many parents came into the orientation on April 18 with their expectations high, looking for a place which would provide academic and creative support for their children . “We were looking for a school that would prepare him for the future,” Liz Toress said.
Others looked to Bronx River’s reputation. “A lot of kids were applying here, and there was a really good graduation rate,’’ Nicole Brown said.
For many, the orientation validated those expectations. Parents described the school as a place which was prepared, organized and welcoming. “ We had high standards, and they were definitely met. Everything was organized , well-kept, and inviting,” said Adam Torres. Another parent added how seeing the school in motion demonstrated how the opportunities offered truly benefit students.
Students also expressed great enthusiasm for what a future at Bronx River could bring. Many commented on the academic and athletic opportunities. “ This school will give me the chance to pursue my dream in basketball,” said Navin Jaikaran. Others said they were anticipating the possibility of taking advanced placement courses and getting involved in sports.
While the orientation gave students a glance into their possible future , many parents highlighted that success was reliant on the students themselves. As one parent acknowledged, this school has the potential to help students shine but it is up to them to make use of the opportunities provided.
