Thanks to Student Council-sponsored bake sales, school clubs have bought LEGO bricks, traveled to Nashville and bought snacks for movie nights. The funding from the Student Council helps school clubs in different ways, such as funding trips, providing more materials and contributing to club events like movie nights.
The Student Council has the snack store open every week from Monday to Thursday during lunch and occasionally hosts bake sales to raise funds for themselves and other clubs in the school. Both events have attracted students and raised funds for the Student Council.
“On average the snack store makes around 150 to 200 dollars a week,” said Kelsey Yeboah, the Student Council treasurer. “The bake sales usually make from 250 to 300 dollars and the BAPS bake sale we had recently made over 800 dollars, being the most successful we had,” she said.
Student Council funding is a way clubs organize their events, so clubs go to Student Council when planning upcoming events. “All of our funds go towards events that the Student Council creates. As a recent example, the Valentine’s day grams and funding for other clubs,” said Zoe Reyes, the Student Council’s secretary. She added that snack store bake sales bring in the most consistent income out of all of the events.
Clubs need help supporting their members, such as the gaming club, which used student council funding to help fund jerseys. “The student council helped fund the jerseys for the final tournament in the gaming club,” said Monique Paes, the advisor of the gaming club. She added that the student council raised about $300 dollars.
The fundraisers that have taken place so far have contributed to building fun activities for the school. “Our goal is to help out the student body so that we can raise funds for the student needs,’’ said Concepcion Pena, the Student Council’s advisor. “For example, rewards for activities, games and town halls, helping other clubs with supplies or travel,”
She added that the biggest thing the Student Council is proud of is the bake sales with other clubs since the students really enjoy them.
The LEGO club has recently had more activities, after the student council raised enough to support the club.
“The money from the student council benefitted us, not just me, us,” said Charley Ruperto, the LEGO club advisor. He added that the LEGO club used the leftover money for a movie event that included ramen and drinks.
Every bake sale brings in a significant amount of money used to be reinvested back into the school. “On average we earn about $250 per bake sale,” said Ashley Rodriguez, the Student Council advisor.
She adds that sales are beneficial for other clubs to buy essentials such as uniforms and activities. “We always make sure we collaborate,” she said.
