As we start a new year, new habits start to develop and people hope to gain a fresh start. These changes in habits are also known as New Year’s Resolutions. However, there comes a common stigma that many people fail to act on these goals for themselves during the year and often don’t complete them. As the new year starts, students and staff reflect on goals from last year and the new year.
Genesis Fernandez, a 12th grader: My goals for 2025 were to stay to myself, focus on my studies as well as my personal growth such as my learning skills, reading, wellness, financial health, and career development. I completed half of those goals. Now in 2026 I’m hoping to learn more and grow in 2026.
Isa Meredith, a 12th grader: I wanted to improve on my drawing skills. I draw every day. My goal this year is to be a better person by having a positive mindset.
Daniella Padagas, an 11th grader: My goals for 2025 were to eat healthier and be more active. I think I fulfilled those wishes considering I started a diet which cut out spicy chips, mainly the ones with lots of red 40, and I was active on my volleyball team. My new year resolution for 2026 is to get close to God as he is a priority of mine.
Jaroly Guzman, a 10th grader: My goals for 2025 were to care for myself, set more boundaries, focus in school, and work on my distractions. I was trying to control my emotions more, and not allow negative things affect me as well as enjoying life and being the better me. Yes, I completed most of those. My goals for 2026 are just the same, working on myself emotionally and physically and just being better than last year.
Reina Ramos Cortes, a 10th grader: One goal for 2025 was to lose weight and I did that by walking home more instead of taking the bus as well going to the gym in the summer. Another goal was to get better grades and I did that by studying more. My goals for 2026 are to lose more weight again and eat even better than last year. Lastly, I want to find a good job that I’m happy with.
Natalie Gil, a 10th grader: My goal for 2025 was to start focusing on myself and my grades, and to pass my Regents. For 2026, my goal is to start putting myself first instead of others first.
Kayla Corella, a 10th grader: My 2025 goal was to get better grades in school and I achieved this because my report card grades went up. My goal for 2026 is to be a nice person and to try to stop being mean.
Layla Batista, a 10th grader: My goal for 2025 was to maintain high grades, which I did complete. My new goal for 2026 is to not eat foods with high sugar and to get my driving permit.
Ryleigh Curry, a 10th grader: My goals for 2025 were improving myself academically and self-wise. I’ve definitely improved academic wise and self improvement is something I’m working towards such as going to the gym and stuff like that. My goals for 2026 are to again advance my progress of academic improvement and much more. A new goal is to be more organized.
Anna Maria Jack, a science teacher: My 2025 goal was to take care of my health, and I did. I am healthy, I drink smoothies with fruits and vegetables. I also bake more, like every weekend. My goals for 2026 are to be less stressed, learn to bake bread, and experiment with new things.
Abraham Zuniga, an algebra teacher: My 2025 goal was to make 50 thousand dollars for my car rental business named AZ, but sadly, I did not succeed. My 2026 goal is to become an online trader as well as trading stocks online.
Andrea Bentaglio, a ninth grade global teacher: My 2025 goal was to finish my exams to become a teacher, to get a job and start becoming more active at the gym which I am still struggling with. But in 2026, my goal is to become an even better teacher to hold myself accountable to my goals and avoid my bad habits.
Charley Repurto, a science teacher: My 2025 goal was to read 30 books but I sorta achieved my goal. My 2026 goals are to make the lego club successful and travel more in the summer starting off with going to Tokyo, Japan.
Vannessa Vega, ESL Teacher: My 2025 goal was to finish my PhD. This program is about doctor society and I have completed it. I ended up struggling in the class. My goal for 2026 is to ascend to have leadership and to have a position to work for high master graduates.
Michelle Brummer, a college and career teacher: My 2025 goal was to regularly lift weights that I couldn’t achieve. My goal for 2026 is to read some books and play board games that I haven’t played yet.
