Bronx River turned the day before Thanksgiving into an all-day celebration. Students started the day in their first period class – either gym or advisory. Then they headed to the auditorium for the school’s Town Hall.
During the celebration, teachers awarded LOGIC awards to the students, in order from 9th grade to 12th grade:
Love of Learning: Oscar Ynoa, Rayniel Linares, Emely Navarro, Naomi Oyengua.
Mr. O’s Optimism: Adrian Liriano, Bryce Carryl, Keiden Munoz, Justin Arias.
Grit: Oumou Barry, Wesley Solis, Priya Mohammed, Sarah Alhajaji.
Intellectual Curiosity: Sebastian Parra, Jeznin Lugo, Deborah Kabore, Freda Sarpong.
Caring: Zarina Didonato, Layla Batista, Diosbeni Rojas, Jeanney Rodriguez.
To keep the energy going, the Student Council hosted a rock-paper-scissor race game. Students had to hop on squares of paper until they met the person in front of them and challenge them to a game of rock. paper, scissors. The winner in each round advanced while the loser was eliminated. Senior Austin Zhu wiped out the competition by making it to the end of the paper line only going through three opponents.
Students also gave live performances. Diosbeni Rojas sang “I Don’t Love You” by My Chemical Romance. Deja Bose and Makayla Cox sang “Best Part.” Aryana Segarra sang “Debut.” The BAPS club performed an original dance. Gabe Joseph performed an original song followed by a performance by Randy Rosario.
After the assembly, students ate lunch in the cafeteria and then went upstairs to eat more food at the advisory potluck parties. The day ended with a student vs. staff volleyball game in the gymnasium. The score went back and forth with the staff ending up with a 2-1 win.
