Students with excellent attendance danced and sang during the school’s Silent Disco on Nov. 14. During the dance party, students put on headphones and danced to music only they could hear: Unlike most school dances, the gym was quiet except for the sound of footsteps and people singing along as swayed to the beats.
To attend the event, students had to have 90 percent or higher attendance. The Silent Disco serves as an incentive to boost attendance and is a fun way to celebrate, said Tene Kelly, an assistant principal.
The school contracts with Elite Learners to provide the food, the DJ and the headphones.
Priya Mohammed, an 11th grader, attended the event. “I enjoyed the music and hanging out with my sister and friends,’’ she said.
