Bronx River held its first senior bake sale, consisting of two rounds with the first round which happened on Thursday, February 13th, and the second round happening on a later date. This bakesale was held as a way to not only provide the underclassmen with sweet treats but also as a way to raise money that will be used to help those seniors who can’t cover the large cost of senior dues.
The senior coordinators for this event are Ashley Rodriguez and Takia Gaynor. Many seniors have signed up to bring in the baked goods for this first round such as the student council president Scarlette Manzanarez and a student council member Ashley Perez. This bake sale is a great show of the sense of community between the seniors and faculty.

Ms. Gaynor says that they are raising money for “the entire senior class, so we’re not just raising money for one senior activity, it’s gonna go for the whole senior class. We’re gonna go for something that will benefit everyone.” This means that the money raised will no doubt open up a lot more fun opportunities for the seniors which could lead to tons of fun memories being made. As for what baked goods you can expect to see at the bake sale, Scarlette Manzanarez said “I’m baking brownies or cupcakes.” Ashley Perez said “I’m not sure what I’m baking yet. It will most likely be some type of bread or cake.” She also mentions her opinion on the importance of seniors chipping in saying, “I think it’s important because it really brings us together, especially since it’s our last year. Senior expenses aren’t exactly cheap, there’s a lot of kids that struggle financially.” If there are any worries when it comes to the prices of the baked goods being served, don’t worry because Ms. Gaynor says “The most expensive thing on our menu might be two dollars. I don’t think anything should go over two dollars.” This bake sale shows just how much the school cares about its students.
The bake sale was widely well received by the students and the staff. Gregory Fucheck, the principal of Bronx River even said, “I love bake sales, I always think that’s a great way to raise funds for things like senior events. I love that people brought stuff in to support the bake sale.” To improve the bake sale, he said “I’m not sure enough word got out in advance about the bake sale, so it’s always good to try to get the word out much earlier and get more support from people to help support the sale.” Ms. Gaynor said “I feel like it went very well, we made a little under $300. For our first bake sale I feel like that was a win.” As for what she thought could be improved, she said, “The only thing I would change is I wouldn’t do 50 kids, I would just ask the next 50 ‘Whoever would like to bring something in, bring it in’ because what happened was we had so much stuff left over, we had to sell again the next day.” Overall, the bake sale’s first round went very well and hopefully the second round will be even better.
The school is also doing a raffle that seniors can enter to help one of them pay for their trip. The senior who wins the raffle will have their overnight trip fully paid for them and if the senior has already paid the $275, the money will be returned to them. To participate in this raffle, seniors must fill out the google form by February 28th and have everything submitted by Friday, March 7th. To be eligible for this raffle, seniors must get two recommendations from a teacher or staff member in the form of a paragraph stating why they deserve to go. The paragraph must be emailed to Ms. Peña and Ms. Rodriguez. The seniors must have also passed all their classes for the fall semester and achieved 90% attendance by Friday, February 28th.
