Teachers at Bronx River High School wore pink as a symbol of solidarity for those with breast cancer on October 11. The United Federation of Teachers has asked teachers to do this as a way to recognize and show respect to women who had to endure the effects of this illness.

Stephanie DeCicco, a global history teacher at BRHS, says, “Breast cancer is the second-leading cancer causing death of American women, and the majority of the UFT is women, so we thought it’d be important to help support members who are or have fought against this awful disease. Lots of progress has been made medically, but there is still a long way to go.”
