Catherine Kemm, a new teacher at BRHS, shares her views.

What was your favorite subject in school? Why? I loved Social Studies because we were taught real interesting stories, it was almost like traveling back in time. It made me feel like I possessed a superpower.

What kind of student were you in high school? I was a very average student, I wasn’t too concerned about grades because I preferred having a social life.

Why did you decide to become a teacher? Why did you pick BRHS? In school I was taught skills from my teachers that led me to discover teaching was a successful career path for me. Before becoming the reading intensive teacher I was involved with the Blue Engine Teaching Assitant (BETA) program at Bronx River. I also admired Greg Fucheck and Evelyn Mendez.

Where did you go to college? I went to Barnard College which is an all-women college and majored in History and minored in Education.

What do you like to do for fun? I like to do yoga and go on adventures with my dog.

Do you have any pets? What kind? Names? I have one dog and his name is Maurice.

Fun/interesting fact about you: I have an extra bone in my feet but my doctor says it’s perfectly fine.

If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be instead? I’m not sure but I do know without a doubt I would not enjoy working in a cubicle.

What would you like your students to know about you? I am a Scorpio.
