Adam Lococo, a senior, plays basketball for the Lehman Lions. He shares his feelings about the sport and importance of committing to your own path.
Q: How long have you been playing?
A: I’ve been playing since I was 11 years old.
Q: What inspired you to play?
A: Watching my favorite players in the NBA encouraged me to start playing.
Q: What is your position on the team?
A: Shooting guard.
Q: What is the best part about playing?
A: The competitiveness of the game is so compelling..
Q: What is the most challenging part about playing?
A: My size. Since I’m 5’6; I’m a bit undersized. I overcame that with skill though.
Q: Describe what a typical meet or game is like.
A: It’s fast paced, with plenty of conditioning, also including drills for strength and toughness.
Q: What was your team record last year?
A: 3-14.
Q: How have you improved from last year?
A: I improved my jumpshot, and I’ve gotten physically stronger.
Q: What advice do you have for others who want to participate in the sport?
A: Work hard every day. Don’t compare yourself to others because your story is yours alone.
Q: What are you and your team’s goals for the season?
A: Have a winning season.
Q: Do you play any other sports? If so, what are they? Which is your favorite? Why?
A: Just Track. But basketball is still my favorite sport because I’ve played it more.
Q: When you graduate from high school, do you plan to continue playing any sports?
A: Probably basketball in college. Or men’s leagues could be good.
