Aye Bah, the new college counselor, helps seniors find the next step in their education. She is from Gambia, a country in West Africa. As a college career advisor, she helps seniors with financial aid applications, scholarships, and college and trade school application. She also helps seniors create a balanced college list and write personal statements.
“I like it because I always feel supported and I like that the students are supported as well,” she said.
Ms. Bah started college counseling in August, but she’s been in education for three years and will continue doing so for three more years at Bronx River.
As the school’s college counselor, Ms. Bah works for the RFCUNY research foundation. “My foundation is a non-profit that provides support to CUNY sponsored research and programs,” she said.
Ms. Bah has many goals for the 2026 senior cohort, including getting “100 percent of the senior class to the next step.”
She also wants the seniors to “be prepared for college and to “know what they are doing for their future.”
Her motivation for becoming a college counselor is supporting high schoolers in their transition from high school to college. She adds how she believes she can provide the students with valuable information from her own personal experience.
Aye Bah helps students by helping them decide what they’re doing after high school.
She says BRHS is supportive and pushes her out of her comfort zone. “I love it,” she said.
In order to help the seniors she advises them to remember that whatever they choose to do after high school may “not be linear.” “It won’t be a “case by case basis,” she said.
