Issiaka Sow, a new math teacher, talks about school and life.
Q: What was your favorite subject in school? Why?
A: In high school my favorite subject was chemistry because I enjoyed the chemistry labs.
Q: What kind of student were you in high school?
A: I was a quiet kid. I did all my work. I did not have straight A’s until my junior year.
Q: Why did you become a teacher? Why did you pick BRHS?
A: Hmm.. I became a teacher from my grandma because of the habit of helping people. Bronx River High School is in my neighborhood.
Q: Where did you go to college?
A: I went to college at Hunter College and got my master’s degree, and went to Lehman college for my bachelor’s degree.
Q: What do you like to do for fun
A: I like to play soccer, anything related to outside activities and my favorite soccer team is Barcelona.
Q: Fun/ Interesting fact about you:
A: My mother, my wife, and daughter have the same first name – Fatou.
Q: If you weren’t a teacher, what would you do instead?
A: I would be a pilot instead of a teacher. I wanted to be a pilot but it was expensive to pay tuition.
Q: What would you like your students to know about you?
A: Their success is my success.
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: I like to play soccer. I also like to travel.
Q: Favorite meal?
A: I can’t cook, but my favorite meal is peanut butter stew.
Q: Favorite Drink?
A: Anything with ginger, especially ginger ale.
Q: Fav musician?
A: My favorite musician is Alpha Blondy.
Q: What are you good at?
A: I’m good at cleaning and sanitizing, tidying and making sure everything is in place.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is peanut butter stew.
