Classmates selected Jose Acosta, a senior at Bronx River High School, as artist of the month for May.
Aimee Cavazzi, the art teacher, describes his art as “some of the best I’ve seen from students.”
How long have you been creating art?
Since I was a little kid.
What inspired you to create art?
I naturally had it and it always just came to my hand every time I wanted to draw something.
How does creating art make you feel?
It allows me to express my thoughts, prideful in a way.
Who are your favorite artists?
I don’t really have a favorite artist; I just love drawing.
When it comes to art, what is your preferred tool?
A pencil because that’s all I need to draw, shade and add details.
Did you learn how to draw or did you always know how?
I always just knew how to draw but I also look at other types of arts for inspiration.
What would you say is your general skill range?
I think I’m near advanced but I can always learn more and do better.
Is there anything you have trouble with in the world of art?
I kind of struggle with realism as I create cartoon and anime art.
What is something you see other artists do that you dislike?
It’s not that I dislike it but I’m not the biggest fan of splatter art.
Are you considering pursuing art as a career or would you prefer doing it as a hobby?
For now, it’s just a hobby but I’ll see if this takes me anywhere.
What piece of art that you’ve done do you like the most? What is its message?
I love all of my art equally and they are just to express my thoughts and not a certain message.
