Sumiya Jahn’s artistic creation, “Monotony,” will be exhibited at the Morgan Library & Museum in Manhattan this summer. The work, a handmade book exploring themes, was created as part of an art club project and will be displayed alongside 11 other handmade books created by students from across the city.
The museum also honored the work of two other Bronx River students, Jose Acosta for “The Judge” and Sadia Ahammad for “Lena and the Fallen Star” at an awards ceremony on May 2.
“I feel very delighted for this opportunity, as I always wanted to make something that will touch the audience’s heart,” Sumaiya, a sophomore, said. “Something they can relate to and make them feel seen.”
Sophomore Sadia Ahammad said the recognition reflects the time and effort she puts into extracurriculars and strengthens her college resume. “I look forward to staying a member,” she said.
Advisors Aimee Cavazzi and Evelyn Mendez guided students throughout the bookmaking project, offering feedback that helped refine their projects. The advisors said they are proud of all the work the art students did on this project, including Lathania Williams for “ Choosing the Perfect Image,” Joseph Vazquez for “Finding Purpose”and Carlos Acosta for “The Door to Possibility.”
