The long-awaited basketball championship finally arrived on March 26, capturing the excitement of students and staff alike. The seniors faced off against the freshmen, with the gym echoing chants of “SENIORS” and “FRESHMEN.”
As the first half unfolded, the competition was fierce. Both teams displayed impressive skill, with seniors leading by a narrow margin of 18-14. However, the second half saw the seniors unite. Jhonluis Feliz, a star player, energized his team with a three-point shot, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Despite the freshmen’s valiant efforts, the seniors triumphed with a final score of 35-20.
The freshmen, although disappointed, showed sportsmanship. Justin Zhu, one of the freshmen players, reflected on the game, saying, “It was a close game…” His words captured the spirit of the team as they consoled each other, some with tears in their eyes, yet proud of their efforts.
Coach Joseph Shinn praised his team. “I’m proud of my boys,’’ he said. “They worked very hard for this.” Meanwhile, Jhonluis Feliz reflected on the game, saying, “They were competitive, and it was a fun game.”
Rich Himed, the coach of the winning team, said, “It’s always a good feeling when your hard work pays off. We, as a society, tend to focus only on the end results, that we often lose sight of the process and the effort that went into it.”
