When the mid-winter break arrived on Feb. 17, some students and staff chose to stay home and relax. Others headed to warmer climates to thaw out during the week-long break.

Principal Gregory Fucheck went to a beach in the United States Virgin Islands called Trunk Bay. It’s 70 percent a national park as well as a popular beach that was voted “the best beach in the world.”
“I went with my wife and three adult children,” he said, adding that the best part about the beach was snorkeling with his family. “Two days on the beach and I’m tan,’’ he said.
Fucheck believes that as humans age, people don’t like the winter and he prefers to go to warm places during the winter. If he remains in cold areas, he likes skiing.
Jannat Chowdhury, an 11th grader, traveled to Bangladesh and reconnected with loved ones. “I went to my family members’ houses and to many restaurants.”
Chowdhury dropped by a bunch of stores and beaches and enjoyed experiencing the culture and visiting places. Even so, she says the best part of her mid-winter recess was “reconnecting with her family after 17 years.”

Angel Sosa, a junior, shares his joyous experiences along the break. “I got to spend quality time with my father which I don’t get to do often,’’ he said.
Sosa attended the MET(The Metropolitan Museum of Art) for the second time and said that he “really got to enjoy it this time.” His favorite part of the museum was seeing the sculptures, especially the “Rome and Greek sculptures.”
The only upsetting experience that took place over the break was when he got sick. “I got sick badly but overall my break was good.”
Alfa Aquino, a Spanish teacher, takes pleasure in going on vacations during the cold. She said, “I usually go on vacation during summer and winter breaks.”
Aquino believes the most important thing in life is “family.’’ She said the best part of her break was “spending time with family in my homeland, Dominican Republic.’’
However, she was unamused with all the hustle that came with the before and after her flight. The “inconvenience of delays” and “tiredness from the flight” became the least exciting part.
Overall, she really enjoyed her break. “I try to travel when I can; it fulfills my heart and makes me happy.”
