Gotta go fast. The iconic catchphrase of everyone’s favorite speedy blue hedgehog, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is the third movie in the iconic character’s live action trilogy. The long-awaited sequel, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” introduces a new fan favorite character named Shadow the Hedgehog voiced by Keanu Reeves. The parallels between the two focus characters, Sonic the Hedgehog [Ben Schwartz] and Shadow the Hedgehog [Keanu Reeves] show the effects of experiencing different environments at a young age.
This movie is a fun to watch because of the plot and cinematography. Also the easter eggs and references to the games and even when they played songs from the games made the movie even more enjoyable. Overall, this movie was a solid 9/10 and is a must watch for any person who enjoys the Sonic franchise of games.
Sonic was treated with love, care and acceptance, while Shadow was treated as a test subject, only seen for scientific purposes and later suffered from grief after losing his best friend Maria.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” story ideas take from “Sonic Adventure 2” and “Shadow the Hedgehog” (video game). The movie follows Sonic as he and his pals, Knuckles and Tails, have to face their new opponent Shadow with an unlikely ally until new revelations change the story. Sonic and team have to face Shadow and the now ex-ally to save the planet.
The movie handles its ideas well and conveys the differing upbringing of Shadow and Sonic well. The movie was paced well and as the movie progressed the tension grew. The writing of Shadow’s story was really well done as he learns how to handle all the rage that has built inside him.
Jim Carrey plays two roles in this movie; he plays Ivo Robotnik (Eggman) and Gerarld Robotnik, who is the grandfather of Ivo. The way they handle this in the movie is well-crafted and at points you don’t even feel like the characters are played by the same person because of how Carrey plays the characters differently and conveys the differences between the two.
