Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors played for bragging rights in the school’s annual basketball tournament on March 24. The players representing their respective grades were super nervous but when it was game time, they put on their serious faces and played their best.
During eighth period, students and staff headed downstairs to the gym to watch the first round. The sophomores and seniors played first. Sophomore Xavier Lyons scored a basket within the first few minutes as the crowds cheered. Soon after that, Justin Aries, a senior, added a three-pointer. The game intensified as both sides scored back and forth until the seniors won 14 to 8.
The freshman and juniors played next with the ninth grade team upsetting the juniors 11 to 7.
The seniors and freshmen will play in the championship round after school on Wednesday.
Senior coach Rich Himed said, “The job is not yet done. We have to win on Wednesday. I’ll be happy then.”
