Bronx River has launched Creative Side Hustle, a business club that lets students explore entrepreneurship and finance.
Main office staff, Belizza Delacruz, Blanca Hernandez and Monica Harris, worked together to create a business club where students practice different types of small business and acquire work skills. Students are learning how to crochet, design using Vinyl, cake decorating and more.
Ms. Delacruz began crafting to make extra money and improve mental health while wanting to share that opportunity with others. Monica Harris, who is already starting her own business, saw the club as a way to grow. “A side hustle can turn into a real business,” she said.
Joseph Vasquez joined the club because he can do more hands-on activities like the utilization of Vinyl for cups, shirts and pants. “I am excited because soon I am going to be able to sell products and have my creativity reach other people,” he said.
He also wants to “make money and get skills for his career interest.”
Others enjoy the club for both the learning experience and social aspect. “Business club is a time where I can meet and socialize with my friends while gaining knowledge,” said Deborah Kabore. “I just finished designing my cup, and I’m working on my tote bag now.”
Throughout the year, members will learn how to use the Cricut machine and work on sublimation projects. They will also create candles, sugar scrubs, decorate cakes, design puzzles and socks, crochet and shape balloons.
With a little creativity, money skills and hands-on projects, the club aims to help Bronx River students build their future, one project at a time.
