Sophomore wrestler Angelina Cuevas competes on the Lehman Campus wrestling team. She shares her experience so far this season.
Q: How long have you been playing?
A: I have been playing it for a few months.
Q: What inspired you to play this sport?
A: I knew people who played it, which convinced me.
Q: What is the best part about playing this sport?
A: The best part about playing the sport is winning because that’s when you know your hard work paid off.
Q: What is the most challenging part about participating in the sport?
A: The most challenging part is perfecting your techniques.
Q: How does a typical practicce go?
A: A typical game is doing drills, learning moves with your partner and practicing stand-ups.
Q: How do you feel like the season is going so far?
A: The season is hard, but the more work I put in, I’ll get better.
Q: How have you improved from last year?
A: I have improved by getting better at my shots and being able to go for six minutes straight.
Q: What advice do you have for others who want to participate in this sport?
A: My advice for others is don’t stop trying because wrestling is a tough sport and you won’t get better if you fall back.
Q: What is your goal for the season?
A: My goal for the season is to win against a boy because they are strong and if I use techniques correctly, I could win.
Q: Do you play any other sports? Which is your favorite?
A: I did track but I like wrestling more because there are multiple ways to win.
Q: When you graduate from high school, do you plan to continue playing any sports?
A: I’m not sure yet because there might be other things in the future that I find more interesting.
