Freshman student, Justin Zhu is a shooting guard for Lehman Campus on the junior varsity basketball team. He reflects on his season so far.
Q: How long have you been playing basketball.
A: I’ve been playing basketball since I was like 7.
Q: What inspired you to play this sport?
A: Just growing up seeing everybody playing the sport, it just made me wanna play the sport.
Q: What is your position on the team?
A: I’m a point guard or shooting guard.
Q: What is the best part about playing this sport?
A: I think overall it just helps me mentally. I cope with a lot of things through basketball.
Q: What is the most challenging part about participating in the sport?
A: Sometimes when you play bad, you gotta keep your head up and continue to play.
Q: Describe what a typical meet or game is like?
A: Sometimes it can be pretty hectic, but most of the time it’s nothing crazy.
Q: How have you improved from last year?
A: I’ve worked a lot on my stamina and my endurance.
Q: What advice do you have for others who want to participate in this sport?
A: Watch somebody that you wanna play like and just study them.
Q: What are you and your team’s goals for the season?
A: I’m trying to make it to the championship, but right now, I’m trying to make it to the playoffs. That’s something to work towards; we like winning.
Q: Do you play any other sports? If so, what are they? What is your favorite?
A: I played baseball in middle school.
Q: When you graduate from high school, do you plan to continue playing any sports?
A: It really depends on how everything goes for me. If I improve a lot, I could use [basketball] for my future.
