From home to the streets, Crocs can be seen everywhere, even at school. Some students even wear their Crocs during physical education. The Crocs might be comfortable but some worry that they aren’t a safe choice for physical activities. Crocs are discouraged during gym class for safety reasons. “No crocs, no tim’s, no slides, no socks,” said Dominick Pelletteri, one of the physical education teachers.
Some students bring an extra pair of athletic shoes in their bags for physical education while some don’t. Sophomores, juniors and seniors have gym two or three times a week depending on their schedule. Meanwhile, freshmen have gym every day during the eighth period.
Joseph Shinn, one of the physical education teachers, says the rules exist to help keep students safe and prevent injuries. “There’s been times when someone fractured their foot,’’ he said. “That’s why it is important.”
“They (Crocs) lack the necessary support and stability for serious exercise,” said sophomore Mia Reyes. She adds that students should just bring an extra pair of shoes with them if needed so that points won’t be taken away.
Junior Melany Ramirez has a different opinion about wearing Crocs during physical education classes. “I wear Crocs to the gym all the time and I’ve never had a problem with them,” she said.
Podiatrist Dan Michaels at the Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Institution in Maryland warns against wearing Crocs for exercise. “I wouldn’t choose a Croc to wear to walk for exercise,” he said in an online statement. “If you’re in a situation where you do need support, you need your foot to be working optimally, then I wouldn’t choose Crocs.”

I can agree with this. Crocs aren’t really suitable for exercise, unless you want to deal with foot pain in the long run. Wearing just socks wouldn’t help either. In fact, just wearing socks would make it worse. There’s a great chance you could slip and fall even if the floor doesn’t seem slippery to you. Sandals? that’s just ridiculous. What if one of the sandals falls off and hits somebody? I wouldn’t make that risk. That’s why shoes are most important when doing PE.
