Students showed of their talents at an Open Mic event in the school library in November. During the event, performers had a chance to sing. read poetry and even dance.
The GSA Club came up with the idea, said Sabrina Alkayfee, the advisor of the club. “We just wanted to highlight kids in the community who had something to share,” she said.
“They were phenomenal talents,” says Charley Ruperto, a science teacher. “It’s also good to see the students that you’ve had over the years to see how grown they have become and how comfortable they are in their own skin.”
Diosbeni Rojas, a sophomore who performed, enjoyed the event. “I was very nervous going up to perform, but overall it was just a fun experience,” he said.
