Looking for something to read? Check out a new book written by junior Ann-Kiara Bourdeau. Available on Amazon, ‘The Visit of Sirius,” a humorous sci-fi book, takes readers on a satirical tour of history.
Her inspiration for the book came from a two-scene play she created for her Opening Act, a campus improv group. With feedback and encouragement from her improv teacher, she expanded the story and self-published it as a book.
Ann-Kiara, who transferred to Bronx River in 10th grade, has loved writing since she was a child. “I discovered my love for writing as a child when I began creating my own books using glued papers.”
She says writing helps her express herself. “As someone who came from a foreign country where French and Creole are spoken, writing was a way for me to communicate my thoughts and feelings,” she said. “At that time, speaking English was difficult, but putting my words on paper felt much easier.”
Ann-Kiara’s passion for writing has continued to grow. “The joy of making up stories from my imagination, writing song lyrics, and being able to express myself in a different language helped me realize that writing was a powerful tool for communication and self-expression.”
The self-published book is available on Amazon as a paperback and e-book. The paperback costs $20 while the e-book is $9.99.
