One thing that sets high school apart from elementary and middle school is the variety of clubs students can participate in after school.
“After school clubs are the best part of high school” says Tene Kelly, an assistant principal. “It gives the opportunity to explore interests and make friends with people that share those interests… Everyone should join an after-school club.”
Below is a roundup of this year’s offerings:
Anime Club, Room 432, 2:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Thursday
If you have an avid love and interest in anime, all students are welcome to join the anime club. Talk, draw and watch your favorite shows, and meet people who share your love for anime. The club also hosts events, such as bake sales and ramen parties.
Newspaper, Room 453, 2:35 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday
Deborah Porterfield hosts a journalism club after school on Tuesdays for students interested in writing and photography. Students are welcome to join to improve their writing and learn new ways to report on topics or events.
Yearbook, Room 448, 2:35 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday
Any student who is interested in creating the yearbooks and taking pictures, come join.
Pickleball, Tennis courts, Room 436 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45- 4p.m.
This sport is rapidly gaining fans. It’s a good way to stay active and is recommended by the members of the club. Everybody is welcome.
Build On, Community Service, Tuesday and Thursday after school, Saturday trips to various location
A fun and easy way to gain community service hours. If you gain a certain amount of community service, you’re able to go on fun trips as a reward. Joining the club will be beneficial to you as well as your community. The dates are different every time; if you hear anything about Build On from the announcements, come stop by room 400.
Esports, Room 455 every Wednesday from 2:45-4 p.m.
A club to show off your video game skills and the members of the club go on tournaments. Interested? Come stop by Room 455.
Hispanic Cultural Club, Room 434, Every Wednesday from 2:40 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.
Join now to gain more knowledge about Hispanic culture. They started cooking this year and there are always good vibes. If you’re interested, the club is in room 434.
Math Tutoring, Room 438, 2:45- 3:45 every Wednesday and Thursday
If you need extra guidance with math, stop by room 438. Math tutoring is welcome for all math classes, and it will help boost your grade. You will have more one-on-one time with your math teacher. You don’t need to attend every session; come by when you have time.
Art Club, Room 427 Every Thursday from 2:40- 4:30 pm
Students interested in drawing, painting, and creating are welcome to join the art club with Aimee Cavazzi. Come show off your artistic skills and come stop by.
Student Council every Thursday 2:40-4 p.m., Room 444
They hold lots of events and fundraisers, and the money goes toward the school and funding their shop. It’s a great community. See Concepcion Pena or Ashley Rodriguez for more info.
The basketball club meets two times per month, 12-3 p.m. in the Gym, every Saturday; sign up with Takia Gaynor
The basketball club takes place every other Saturday and it’s a three-hour program, 12-3 p.m. The purpose of the program is to give students a safe environment to work out. They start off with exercises to warm the students up and then they do basketball games.
