Emily the Corpse Bride won first first place in the Student Council costume contest on Halloween.
Samaya Khalian found creating the costume challenging. “I made the costume from scratch, and it took me some time to paint myself blue,’’ she said. She won $25 for her spooky effort. Emalee Charles and Jayden Mota, who dressed up as dead prom king and queen, also won prizes.
And everyone – in costume or not – received candy when they went trick-or-treating in classrooms right before the start of second period. Teachers in each classroom handed out candy.
Student Council also sold “boo bags,” which included fidget toys along with a selection of chocolates and candies.Their efforts earned more than $200, which will be given to Aimee Cavazzi to support her art class and club in purchasing new materials.
“It was fun,’’ said Kyana Valerie, a sophomore. “We got to hang out with our friends.’’She added, “It was a little distraction from all the work. A 10/10 experience.”
Alexa Figueroa, a sophomore, dressed up as a female cop for Halloween. “I chose something basic and fun,” she said. Her boyfriend, Oscar Juarez, dressed as a prisoner to match her costume. “I wanted to match with my boyfriend since it’s his last year at Bronx River,” she said.
