The Bronx River News staff talked to teachers about the upcoming presidential election.
Anna Maria Jack, an Earth Science teacher, said, the election “does not have a direct impact on me but if a black woman were to win, it would have some degree of positive effects on the people, mostly women.” She added that if Donald Trump won, we might have an idea of what it would be like.
Stephanie DeCicco, a history teacher, said her vote will be anonymous, although she did add some views on the process. “Whoever gets elected as the new president has to focus on the problems in the U.S and across the world because it’s a powerful country and should help others who need it the most,” she said.
Charley Ruperto, a science teacher, talked about the issues that matter most to him. He mentioned the need for a fair tax system, freedom of speech for all and inflation as major issues. He also added that it’s important to consider candidates’ ages and work experience.
What do students think
In an informal poll the second week of September, students were asked who they thought would win the election: 47 percent of students thought Kamala Harris would win while 53 percent thought Donald Trump will win.
