Vanessa Vega, a new teacher at BRHS, teaches English and ENL classes.
Q. What was your favorite subject in school? Why?
A. I was always an art person because I like creating things with my hands and global history because my teacher would incorporate that in the lessons.
Q. What kind of student were you in high school?
A. I was very studious. I could’ve done better, but I graduated on time.
Q. Why did you decide to become a teacher? Why did you pick BRHS?
A. My mom was a substitute teacher. I saw her encourage students and I wanted to follow her footsteps. I chose to teach at Bronx River because I’m part of the community and I wanted to help grow the community and grow in the community.
Q. Where did you go to college?
A. I went to Hostos Community College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Hunter College, College of Saint Rose and College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Q. What do you like to do for fun?
A. I like to rest and spend time with my family.
Q. Do you have any pets? What kind?
A. I have three dogs, one cat and two turtles.
Q. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you do instead?
A. I went back to school for administration and one day I hope to be a school leader or a district leader.
Q. What would you like your students to know about you?
A. I continuously try to improve myself so I can be a breath of fresh air and helpful to those around me.
