Now that the new school year is under way, the Bronx River News Staff wondered how the school year is going so far. Freshman are just starting their high school years while seniors are one step closer to graduating. So we asked students and staff: “How was your expierence at the start of the year?”
Erik Crooks, a new ninth grader, made a friend on his first day of school. “I am enjoying it with my friend,” he said. “I mostly liked the basketball group of this school.”
“My favorite class is Physical Education because I get to exercise and I’m an assistant there,” said Cameron Gallowy, a 10th grader who feels that classes are getting a little stricter than ninth grade.
Khaled Ali, 11th grader, said, “I am trying hard to get better grades because it is the most important year as a high school student and I’m enjoying the school.”
Jabdiel Alicea, a 12th grader, enjoyed meeting new freshmen and was very excited for senior year as he said, “This senior year is going to be fun. It’s my last year and I’m going to make the most of it.”
He is also interested in the military. “It’s something I’ve loved since I was a child,” he said. “It’s always been a passion of mine and I have family members in the army.”
“The first day of school was pretty good, ” said Marco Pompa, a history teacher. “I am so happy with the uniform policy because we can recognize our students among so many students on the school campus as our campus has six schools.”
Pedro Rabeje, a social studies teacher, felt pretty good about his first week of school as he was also excited to be a new U.S history teacher. “I was excited when they told me in June,” he said. “I read books and collected materials to get ready.”
Students and teachers’ experiences for the first week seems pretty enthusiastic but some expressed concerned about the rest of the school year. Seniors are excited for the last year of school and the freshmen are looking forward to making new friends.
