Often students have a hard time switching over to high school from the middle school environment. So the Bronx River News team asked the incoming freshman to describe their experience so far. Here’s what they shared:
“In middle school, students were immature and childish and now in high school, everyone is more mature” said Yusuf Jama. “Before I had to walk to school and now I have to take the bus”.
Tahfizul Haque says, “The changes were weird. I think I had to learn routes with the bus.” He also feels that people around him are more mature and different then he experienced in middle school.
Nevaeh Linen says,“It’s been going pretty good so far. I realized that everybody goes to different classes even though they are in the same grade.” She also added that “High school is chill, has nicer teachers and is better than middle school.
Adrian Castillo was eager to share his views: “It was similar because a lot of people that I was close with, came over here.” He added, “The teachers here are much better”.
Although many freshmans are seeing new and positive changes after switching over, some are still having a tough time getting through things.
Bryce Carryl said, “I became more quiet. I also don’t have a lot of friends.” He added, “Other than that, everything else seems normal to me”.
Some freshmen are thrilled and very excited for their new year as a high schooler and some are scared to communicate and feel lonely as they don’t have friends yet.
