A chill surrounds the air and snow crunches on the ground as heavy snow boots pierce through. A circular snow tube is pushed down toward the slope and the anticipation of reaching the end causes the seniors to scream as they enjoy one of many activities on their senior overnight trip.
Days prior to attending the senior trip to Villa Roma resort in the Catskills on Feb 9 to 11, seniors can be heard sharing their excitement for this new experience with their peers. I became ecstatic at attending another trip, especially having the opportunity to experience snow activities.
The two- hour bus ride gave me a chance to gloss over the itinerary. Villa Roma offers skiing, snow tubing, an indoor pool, bounce houses and many other activities. On the way, I viewed the area around us, taking in a landscape of mostly trees and occasional farm animals.
Upon our arrival, I rushed to the bouncy house with slides, a rock climbing area and inflatable obstacle courses. Climbing throughout the colorful inflatable stairs, quickly sliding down is enough to get your heart pumping and make you break a sweat. I knew this portion of the activities I would come back to.
Becoming situated in our rooms allowed us to change into our bathing suits. The pool was the right temperature to stay a while and play volleyball.
The food at Villa Roma was varied and delicious. Options included pasta, chicken, fish and a variety of breakfast items. If you have a sweet tooth, there was a selection of sweets, including my personal favorite, tiramisu. Later in the night, there was a dance party with a DJ playing popular songs. It was a fun and carefree atmosphere, and we got the opportunity to briefly meet students from other schools. Pizza was also provided, and the overall vibe was joyful and lively.
One of the snow activities that I was really looking forward to was snow tubing, which involved a big slope made of snow and ice. We were given tubes to sit in and then we slid down the slope, going faster and faster until we reached the end. It was a lot of fun, and I loved the sensation of speeding down the slope.
Roasting marshmallows was an additional treat we got to experience on the last night before we would leave. The atmosphere was comfortable and filled with laughter as some of our marshmallows became burnt.
“My experience on the trip was good,’’ said Cynthia Suarez. “There were a lot of activities I got to do with my friends like snow tubing that created lasting memories for senior year.”
She added, “I enjoyed spending time with my friends since it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to hangout as a whole before senior year ends.”
