Did you know our school has a library? Not many students in Bronx River are aware of the fact that there is a library on the first floor, because Lehman mainly resides there. In the past few semesters the library has held many events, for example the computer science fair in which students showed their virtual creations with anyone who came to see, as well as holding meetings pertaining to information on available College Now courses.
Principal Gregory Fucheck said that before COVID students had the ability to go to the library instead of the lunchroom. After the pandemic began to die down, Mr. Fucheck decided to stop letting students go to the library as only a very small number of students would actually go to the library. With the past couple of semesters the school staff has been stretched thin in terms of availability, so when the issue of whether to have staff on the 4th floor allowing students to stay upstairs or escorting them to the first floor so they can visit the library appeared, he decided to let students stay on the 4th floor or go to the cafeteria in the basement.
During recent visits to the library, many students were seen lounging on the chairs either talking to their friends or reading a book. Showing that the library can definitely be a comfortable place to kick back, relax, and pick out a nice book. The selection of books has a wide variety of genres to choose from. Students who are unfamiliar with our campus library when given the chance should check it out. Both bookworms and non bookworms alike can find solace in the environment. The convenience of having a library at our school can spark an interest in reading, even if it’s just browsing the books available.
